Hey everyone!
Something that we have been practicing every week is timed reading. It's been really exciting to see everyone's reading time improve in only five weeks! If you want to practice more timed reading, here is a really good website: http://resources.marshalladulteducation.org/reading_skills_home.htm Start in the section that says "Read the Stories" and click on Group 2 - Levels 5.0 to 8.0. You can pick any story you want. (5.0 is easier, 8.0 is the most challenging!) Read the story, then click "continue." The second time, you can listen to the story while you read. See if you can get faster each time you read the story. You can practice with as many stories as you want. Keep up the good work! You've all been making great progress. -Jenny & Carsten

Hi everyone! Next Tuesday will be the halfway point for our class - only a few more weeks to go! I have three tasks for you to work on today.
1. Since it will be our midterm (a fancy word for halfway through a class), your quiz is going to include vocabulary from Lessons 1-4. Yikes! You can do this, though, and I've made a Quizlet set to help you study. Click the link below to practice: https://quizlet.com/_2pgtml 2. Once you've studied the words, try writing a sentence of your own! Choose one word (any word) from our vocabulary lessons, and write a sentence using that word. Post a comment with your sentence to share with everyone! 3. Midterm also means that we'll have the TABE test coming up in a few weeks. Last week we worked on TABE and GED practice questions using ITTS. You can access ITTS by clicking below. https://www.wgcontemporary.com/login.html Remember, your username is: LastnameFirstname. Your password is: Lastname If you have trouble logging in, let me know so I can get it fixed! Keep working hard! You're all doing a great job in the class so far. -Jenny & Carsten Hey guys! I know that we already took the quiz for our first vocabulary lesson - great job, by the way! - but these words will also be on your quiz next week. Therefore, it's important to keep practicing the new words.
I like to make Quizlet quizzes for all our vocabulary. If you haven't used Quizlet before, I think you'll like it. If you have, you already know that it's a great way to study new words. Every week, I'll post a link to the latest quiz here on the blog. To look for past quizzes, click the "Vocabulary" link under Categories on the side of the page. Lesson 1 Quizlet: https://quizlet.com/_2pgtml Keep working hard, and have a great weekend! -Jenny & Carsten Hi everyone! Have you ever thought about your learning style? A learning style is the style in which your brain most easily learns and retains information. Knowing your learning style can help you study for your classes and attain your educational goals faster!
There are three main learning styles. They are: -Auditory (learn by hearing/listening) -Visual (learn by seeing) -Tactile (learn by touching/doing) Which one are you? Try taking this quiz to find out: http://www.educationplanner.org/students/self-assessments/learning-styles.shtml Click on "Answer the 20 Questions" to get started. At the end of the quiz, you'll get a report of your learning style strengths and some suggestions to help you learn better. Read through this information, then click "Comments" and respond with: Your first name Your learning style strengths One thing from your report that you will try using to help you learn better See our comments for an example. We think that knowing your learning style and using learning strategies that work with your learning style will help you achieve your goals faster! That's it for now. Keep working hard! -Jenny & Carsten |
